This is an RSS Newsfeed, designed to be read in an RSS application. You will need an RSS-capable browser (such as Opera, Firefox or Internet Explorer 7) or an RSS Newsreader to properly view it.
Syntactic is owned and run by Jim Wilkinson.
On this site I give advice on using the Web, including help with choosing browsers, e-mail software and search engines and with regaining control over Web advertising, viruses and junk e-mail (spam).

Browsers: Internet Explorer 8 released

Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) was released on 19 March 2009. It promises to be a significant improvement over IE7, particularly in respect of support for the international standards on which the functioning of Web sites depend. IE had got a long way behind other browsers in this respect but IE7 and IE8 have started the catching-up process. Since IE8 aims to be a significant further improvement, we have now to see how well it achieves this without the introduction of new bugs. There are early reports of problems, including issues of slow performance. Since all major releases of software have problems, I recommend waiting for a few weeks at least before upgrading to IE8 from earlier versions. IE8 can be installed only under Windows XP Service Packs SP2 and SP3 and under Windows Vista. If you are currently using Opera or Firefox, there is probably no reason to download IE8, at least for the present.
